Anthony Bass, O.D.
Dr Anthony V. Bass was born in Amarillo. He is a fifth generation resident of the Texas Panhandle on both
sides of his family. After graduating from Tascosa High School, Dr Bass attended Texas A&M and then
the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Bass is a Therapeutic Optometrist, an Optometric
Glaucoma Specialist and is American Board of Optometry certified. He received an Honorary Doctor of
Medical Degree from Gomel, Belarus State Medical Institute in 2002, and has been licensed to
practice in South Africa. He practices in Amarillo’s Medical Center with Dr. Tyler Smith and Dr. Ki Hargis.
His professional accomplishments include having been a member of the Bausch & Lomb Olympic Vision
Center staff, Texas Department of Health Advisory Committee on Children’s Vision, University of
Houston Advisory Council of Optometry, University of Houston Dean’s Council, University of Houston
board member for Optometric Alumni and Past State President of the Texas Association of
Optometrists.
Civic activities include board of directors for the Amarillo Health Facilities Authority, Training Advisory
Board member for the Amarillo Police Department, Potter County Sheriff’s Office and the Panhandle
Regional Law Enforcement Academy.
In addition to professional and civic activities, his interests include farming and ranching , twice selected
for the Texas Soil and Water Wildlife Conservationist Recognition Award, Board of director for the Texas
Dove Hunters Association, and World Champion Competitive Chuckwagon Cooking Team member.
Husband of Jane Bass for 50 years , father of 3 daughters, proud grandfather of seven grandchildren.

Tyler Smith, O.D.
Dr. Smith grew up in Panhandle, Texas and attended Texas Tech University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in 2007. Dr. Smith found a passion for optometry while working his way through college in private practice in Lubbock. From there he attended University of Houston College of Optometry where he excelled in clinic and the classroom. He was recognized by the dean as the only student to receive letters of clinical excellence in each and every clinical rotation since the inception of the college in 1952. Dr. Smith again graduated Summa Cum Laude with his doctorate of optometry in 2011. After receiving hospital and pediatric training, Dr. Smith returned to the Panhandle and joined Dr. Anthony Bass. In 2014, they formed Medical Center Eye Associates.
Dr. Smith has been active in the community for the last decade and enjoys volunteering his time to non-profit organizations. He has served on the board of directors for Turn Center and was chairman of the board in 2019. He currently serves on the Turn Center medical advisory and foundation boards. Dr. Smith volunteers at Amarillo Montessori Academy and is serving on the board of directors. He is a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church
Dr. Smith’s greatest joy in life comes from spending time with his wife, Ashley, and his two sons, Max and Cal.

Ki A. Hargis, O.D.
Dr. Hargis graduated from Amarillo High School in 2011. He received his bachelor of science degree in Human Nutrition from Oklahoma State University in 2014 and his doctorate in optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2019. Dr. Hargis completed externships at Acadian Vision Associates in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he received laser eye surgery training, as well as the Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas, providing eye care for veterans and active duty members of the United States Armed forces and their families.
While at the University of Houston, Dr. Hargis was a member of multiple student organizations and served as the class representative for four years, earning recognition from faculty, staff, and his peers. He was awarded membership into the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society for demonstrating outstanding professional and ethical attitudes through leadership and service to his class, college, and profession.
Dr. Hargis has joined Dr. Anthony V. Bass and Dr. Tyler C. Smith of Medical Center Eye Associates at Coulter Drive Optical in Amarillo and is looking forward to caring for the vision and eye health needs of the Texas Panhandle.
